Here is some pretty important info about the ISCF Leadership Conferences in Springwood & Tamworth.

When is it on?

The first week of the state school holidays.
9-13 July 2018

Where is it?

Blue Gum Lodge (Youthworks Conference Centre)
6 Fels Avenue
Springwood NSW 2777

Lake Keepit, between Tamworth and Gunnedah.

Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre
Fitness Camp Road
Gunnedah NSW 2380

How will I get there?

Car or Train are the best options for getting to the conference. Start and finish times have been set so that delegates can catch Blue Mountains Line trains to and from Springwood Station. Leaders will be available to walk with delegates to the site and to transport luggage. The station is a 10min walk from the conference centre.

More information on transport options and where to meet to catch the train will be provided upon registration.

It's up to you and transport isn't included in the cost. However, times have been set so that students can access the Countrylink train and bus services that run north from Tamworth to Armidale and along the New England Highway northwest from Inverell through Barraba/Manilla and west from Gunnedah to Moree. If needed, we could pick you up from Tamworth Train Station and take you to Lake Keepit, you would just need to arrange this with us beforehand.

How much and what’s included?

The cost is $265 up until 31 May 2018 and after that $295. The cost includes all food, accommodation (if you're attending the Tamworth conference you will need to bring your own linen), insurances and conference materials. There are no big activities involved and everything has been done to keep expenses to a minimum.

Please do not let cost be a barrier to attending the conference. We have supporters who are willing to contribute financially if delegates are unable to pay part or the entire conference fee. We can also arrange for smaller more manageable payments over time. Please call Michael or Dave (details below) for more information on paying for the conference.

So what happens there?

The week is designed to help delegates develop as a young Christian, particularly in ways you can be a leader at school. We believe a leader is a leader by example - it’s not just a position but also a way that you live. For this reason, we will spend time hearing God’s word taught and letting it shape our hearts. We will spend time in study groups as well as in workshops that will equip us for our service in schools. There is plenty of down time and time to get to know a bunch of new people through crazy games and thought-provoking challenges.

Who is the speaker this year?

Speaker will be Tom Magill, Assistant Minister at Oxley Vale Anglican Community Church, who will teach from Matthew's Gospel about 'The Hard Sayings of Jesus'.

Who should come? Can I bring a friend?

Any Christian school students in years 9-12 are welcome (which means bring your friends from school, youth or anywhere – if they want to be there!). Delegates should be in at least year 9 at high school (so about 15 years old).

If you’re in year 12 and concentrating on finishing school, don’t be deterred. We can schedule in study time and have teachers on the team who can tutor in a range of HSC subjects.

What to Pack

  • Sleeping bag or sheets (blankets provided at Springwood), no linen provided at Lake Keepit
  • Notebook and pens
  • Pillowcase (pillows are provided)
  • Bible (any version is OK)
  • Warm bed clothes
  • Torch, camera
  • Casual clothes for cold and hot weather conditions
  • Train money
  • A warm jacket, etc (it is winter!)
  • Spending money for bookstore
  • Sport shoes and clothes for free time
  • Hat and sunscreen
  • Toiletries and towel
  • Wet weather gear
  • Musical instrument - if you play it, bring it!

Do I have to be a leader/go to ISCF/have an ISCF group at my school?

The answer is basically no. You won’t suddenly become a leader... you might already be a leader or you might get inspired to start something at your school - who knows? Pretty much everything we do at the conference will also help you to serve better in your church and youth group - yippee!
