Introducing Jesus on Camp

The way camps are going

The way ahead for Scripture Union camps is looking increasingly bright. According to Camp Director Glenn Coombs the camping ministry is going through tangible growth with not only more camps on offer but camps targeting new areas of interest.

Launching this autumn are Rugby League Camp and Creation Care Camp, with at least two other new camps in the pipeline for 2017. “There are currently 22 camps on offer and in this particular point in history, under God’s provision, we are seeing a real resurgence in the camping movement” Glenn said.

What has led to this resurgence?

Glenn attributes at least part of this growth to the recent support that SU has provided to the current camp directors, who have in turn inspired others to connect with SU about new camp ideas. So Glenn said “if you have got an idea, call me, email me – that is my role to talk to people about what God is laying on their heart.”

All the SU camps are residential and generally located in the great outdoors, which is another reason Glenn believes that camps are regaining popularity. Parents he said “are keen for their children to unplug for a week and have a rich experience in a creative Christian community.”
