Frequently Asked Questions

We’re sure you have heaps of questions, so here are some answers to FAQs about the trip.

1. Who will be leading the trip?
This trip is led by an experienced team of adults who have satisfied all the requirements of the NSW Working with Children Guidelines - the team includes our own great cooks!

2. Where will I be staying?
During your time in Vanuatu, you will be staying at a campsite owned by Scripture Union Vanuatu. It’s not a luxury resort! There are hut style dormitories on the campsite (males and females are accommodated separately) and a bathroom block with flush toilets and fresh water showers. This campsite is a key ministry centre for camps in Vanuatu and will help you to better experience the culture of the islands.

3. Who will be coming?
Schoolies in Vanuatu is available to any NSW school student who has completed their HSC in 2018 — we have a maximum of 20 places available. As it is a mission trip, our expectation is that students are committed Christians who have a desire to be involved in cross-cultural mission.

4. Is everything included in the price?
The full cost for the trip is $1900. This includes all food, transportation, accommodation and activities. You will need to bring some spending money for purchasing souvenirs, snacks etc. There are ATMs and money exchange facilities in Port Vila. Many of the shops also take major credit cards and some also have EFTPOS facilities.

5. When do I need to pay the balance of the cost?
You need to pay a minimum deposit of $800 with your application. This means that we are able to book flights and make other arrangements as soon as possible. Any cancellations made by the applicant will incur a $35 administration charge, plus the cost of the flight and travel insurance, if already booked by Scripture Union NSW.

6. Is there any chance that the trip may be cancelled?
If we fail to meet the minimum number of participants, the trip will be cancelled. In the event of the trip being cancelled by Scripture Union NSW, a full refund will be provided.

7. Do I need to get travel insurance?
No. Standard travel insurance has already been included in the cost. However, to be covered for pre-existing medical conditions you would need to contact the Scripture Union NSW office to discuss additional requirements and fees.

8. When do applications close and what should I send in?
